Ebb and flow
Located in Plymouth, the National Maritime Aquarium is the largest public aquarium in the UK, attracting over 300,000 visitors annually. We were commissioned to develop an overall signage and wayfinding scheme for the attraction in order to improve visitor experience, which took the form of a masterplan document. Due to growth of the site, large areas were without clear signage and the visitor journey had suffered as a consequence.

Finding a way though
Due to the international nature of the aquarium and its visitors, the pedestrian flow through the attraction was signified by a simple fish motif which was not reliant on language to be understood. Stainless steel forms the basis for signage both outside and in, bringing continuity and visual clarity to the scheme.

Response to project
“We engaged the services of think scribble do when we realised we needed a holistic strategy for our visitor signage and way finding, at the National Marine Aquarium. The strategy they produced was logical, intuitive and practical. It was designed with our budget, knowing that we could not implement it all at once but instead it was broken into stages that we are slowly applying across our site. I can not recommend Think Scribble Do highly enough for signage projects, interpretation, exhibition design.”
